Anxiety

Anxiety

Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe.

At some point in their lives, everyone experiences anxiety. For example, when taking an exam, having a medical test, or going to a job interview, you may feel nervous and anxious.

During times like these, feeling anxious can be perfectly normal.

Some people, however, find it difficult to control their worries. As a result, they may experience constant anxiety that affects their daily lives.

Anxiety is the main symptom of several conditions, including:

  • panic disorder
  • phobias, such as agoraphobia or claustrophobia
  • post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • social anxiety disorder (social phobia)

This section will discuss a specific condition called generalised anxiety disorder (GAD).

In contrast to an event, GAD is a long-term condition that causes anxiety about various situations and issues.

GAD sufferers feel anxious most days and cannot remember the last time they felt relaxed.

After one anxious thought is resolved, another may come up about an entirely different issue.
